Quang Duong Signs with Sypik: Is This a Power Shift in the Pickleball World?

In a move that’s lighting up the pickleball world, Vietnamese paddle brand Sypik has signed Quang Duong, one of the most electric players on the PPA Tour, as their newest sponsored pro. Ranked #7 in Men’s Singles, and widely known as one of the tour’s hardest hitters, Quang’s endorsement could mark a major turning point for Sypik—and the global paddle market.

So far we have not seen this brand available in North America.

Sypik: From Asia to the World Stage

Previously popular mostly in Southeast Asia, Sypik is now aiming higher, expanding its footprint internationally. With sleek branding and a growing reputation for lightweight, explosive paddles, the brand has caught the eye of gearheads and elite players alike. The signing of Quang Dong isn’t just a sponsorship—it’s a statement.

The Mid-Game Switch Heard ‘Round the World

Quang Duong has been a long-time Selkirk athlete, known for wielding the Power Air Invikta, a paddle built for aggressive, high-speed play. But at this year’s PPA Tour: Masters, Quang stunned fans and commentators by switching paddles mid-game, abandoning the Selkirk 008 for a Proton Flamingo.

The move instantly sparked rumors—was this a stunt, a protest, or a prelude to a new sponsorship? Many believed Proton had landed him. But in a surprise twist, Sypik emerged as the brand to officially secure Quang’s signature.

It did seem a bit rude at the time.

A Paddle Built for Power

Quang’s game is power-driven, so it’s safe to assume his upcoming Sypik paddle will lean toward sub-14mm thickness, designed for max pop and speed. Given his history with the Selkirk Power Air, fans can expect a paddle that matches his aggressive baseline attacks and lightning-fast drives.

Where Does This Leave Selkirk?

Selkirk remains a leader in paddle innovation, and even without Quang Dong, their roster is still stacked with elite talent. Catherine Parenteau, Jack Sock, and Rachel Rohrabacher continue to deliver strong performances on the PPA Tour, proving that Selkirk's gear can go toe-to-toe with the best.

Back at our local club in Corte, paddles like the Selkirk 008 are still favorites—especially among players like Patrick and our top youth competitors who love its blend of control and responsiveness. Yet, on the professional circuit, the trend is shifting. Power paddles, not foam-core control paddles, are dominating finals.

That said, Selkirk is not standing still. Their Luxx 2.0 series is rumored to be a next-gen evolution of their current lineup—offering refinements in both feel and performance. Combined with the upcoming Gen 3 SLK line, Selkirk seems poised to bring their Labs innovations to the mainstream. 2025 could be the year they redefine what high-performance consumer paddles look like.

The Takeaway

Quang Duong’s signing with Sypik isn’t just a brand switch—it’s a bet on the future of pickleball gear. As Sypik enters the North American scene, armed with one of the game’s most exciting talents, all eyes will be on the brand’s next paddle drop.

Is this the beginning of a global shake-up in pro pickleball gear? Time—and tournaments—will tell.
